Southwest Bach Festival Contest Categories

Prodigy Solo Categories

For more experience students with a repertoire of a more competitive nature. The best four performers in each category will win a commemorative medal. The first place winner of each category may advance to the grand prize contest. Repertoire must consist of two contrasting pieces or movements; one of the pieces must be composed by Bach and the other must be a Baroque piece. The time limit for this category is 10 minutes.

Open Solo Categories

For students performing works of a more competitive nature. The best four performers in each category will win a commemorative medal. Repertoire must consist of one piece or movement by any Baroque composer. The time limit for this category is 5 minutes.

Open Ensemble Categories

For student duets and ensembles performing works of a serious and competitive nature. The best four groups in each category will win a commemorative medal. Repertoire must be from the Baroque or early-Classical period. The age category is determined by the age of the eldest member of the ensemble. The time limit for this category is 5 minutes.

Qualified Solo Categories

For students with three or more years of formal study. Repertoire must be from the Baroque or early-Classical period. The best four performers in each category will win a commemorative medal. The time limit for this category is 3 minutes

Junior Qualified Solo Categories

For students with less than three years of formal study. Repertoire must be from the Baroque or early-Classical period. The best four performers in each category win a commemorative medal. The time limit for this category is 3 minutes

Entry Qualified Solo Categories

For students with less than one year of formal study. Repertoire must be from the Baroque or early-Classical period. The best four performers in each category win a commemorative medal. The time limit for this category is 3 minutes

Qualified Ensemble Categories

For small ensembles. Repertoire must be from the Baroque or early-Classical period. The best four groups in each category win a commemorative medal. The age category is determined by the age of the eldest member of the ensemble. The time limit for this category is 3 minutes.
